Chapter One :Chapter 1

Su City was known for its prosperity, nestled in the heart of Jiangnan’s wealth.

Among its business giants stood K-Tenn Group, ranked in the top ten of China’s private enterprises for ten consecutive years.

"Henry, your swing’s really improved. I bet you could easily qualify for the international youth golf tournament next year," said a stunning girl with a bright smile, holding onto the arm of a good-looking boy.

She was Opal Stone, heiress of the Stone family’s third generation. Beautiful and well-known throughout Su City, suitors lined up for her—but the only one she cared about was the boy beside her, her childhood sweetheart and first love, Henry Lambert.

Henry was the heir to K-Tenn Group. His parents had died in a tragic car accident three years ago, leaving him with a massive company to manage.

After internal shake-ups and vultures circling from every direction, it had been the Stone family who helped him pull through. And Opal, who never left his side—her companionship got him through the darkest days.

Now past the grief, Henry was living carefree. Parties, fine dining, luxury trips—there was more money than he could spend in ten lifetimes anyway.

"I'm not planning to go pro or anything. Golf’s just something I do to chill when I have time," he said with a relaxed smile, secretly thinking about the company he’d invested in. The project was almost done, and he couldn’t wait to give Opal the special gift—she’d love it.

Right then, his phone rang. He picked it up reluctantly but then shouted in surprise, "What? The prototype is ready? That’s amazing! I’m at Koi Hills, bring it over right now!"

He hung up and turned to Opal, unable to hide his excitement. "You’re getting a gift! You’re gonna love it!"

Opal giggled softly, her tone sweet. "Henry, I don’t need any gifts. As long as you’re with me, I’m happy."

Fingers interlocked, they sat down at an open-air café.

"This is such an awesome day," Henry said, practically bursting. "I’m turning eighteen! I’m officially an adult! And Uncle Robert’s hosting the shareholders’ meeting. After today, I’ll finally be the real boss of K-Tenn!"

"Mm," Opal replied with a faint smile.

They chatted for a while until Henry got another call. He jumped up to fetch the gift, grinning from ear to ear.

Opal stayed seated, sipping her drink with a noticeable tension behind her expression.

Then her phone rang.

"Opal," came a calm yet firm voice.

Her heart raced.

"It’s done. From today, the Stone family is now the sole master of K-Tenn Group," said Robert Stone, barely containing his excitement. His voice then turned sharp. "You’ve had to endure a lot these three years, sticking with that useless brat. But it’s over now. You’re free to do whatever you want."

"I’m fine. Got it."

Opal bit her lip and stared into the distance. She thought she’d feel at peace when this day came, but unexpectedly, all she could feel was how badly she wanted to leave him behind.

Soon, Henry came back grinning, gift box in hand.

A waiter followed behind with a bottle of champagne and two fluted glasses.

"Opal! I bet there’s news from the meeting by now," Henry said as he opened the bottle himself. His face was glowing with excitement. He poured her a glass before raising his own. "And wait until you see what I got you! You’re gonna freak out!"

He didn’t notice the cold smirk creeping onto Opal’s lips.“Opal, I... I’m just so happy.”

Henry Lambert took a sip of champagne, walking over with a bright smile, holding out a small box with both hands.

“Here, this is the gift I told you about. Remember how you used to say those futuristic phones were cool? I’ve spent the last three years having my people develop one. This is the prototype.”

His voice was full of pride and excitement.

Smack!

Opal Stone slapped the box out of his hand, her face filled with disgust.

“Opal?” Henry stared in shock, champagne spilling from his cup onto the floor.

The box hit the ground with a crisp sound, but what shattered more than the phone was his heart.

She let out a cold laugh. “You seriously thought I cared? That was just small talk.”

Raising her glass with a condescending smile, she continued, “Tonight’s worth celebrating—but not with you.”

Opal bent down, picked up the box, pulled out the phone, and tapped the power button. The screen stayed black.

“See? Useless junk,” she scoffed. “I told you not to waste money on this. But you didn’t listen. Can’t believe you got scammed by your own lab team. How naive can you get?”

Henry stood frozen, completely lost, watching the girl he once thought he knew turn ice-cold in front of him. A wave of panic rose inside—he quickly called someone.

“What?! Mr. Stone just got appointed as chairman of Kaitian Group—with 99% support?”

As he slowly hung up, his hands were trembling.

More messages poured in. Stock transfer agreements, property handovers, bond contracts... every one of them bearing his signature.

“You... this was all a setup from the Stones,” Henry stammered. “I trusted Mr. Stone. Why would he do this?”

Kaitian’s assets—over 90%—had quietly ended up under Opal’s family.

“Loser.” Opal stood up, her lips curling in disdain. “Henry, know your place. We’re done.”

“Why?” he asked, eyes hollow.

She looked at him like he was pitiful. “Because you really turned out useless.”

“Did you seriously think Kaitian still belonged to your family? For three years, you’ve been busy playing around. Sure, you were young, but what did you actually do? I held out hope you might grow up. If you showed even the tiniest bit of ambition, I’d have tried to stop my father. But you didn’t.”

“You blew money left and right, acted like some arrogant trust fund brat. And now? Time to pay the price for your stupidity.”

She glanced at the smashed box and sneered.

“That ‘lab’ of yours? You threw millions into it for three years, and what came out of it? Nothing.”

“You probably don’t even realize it, but the people around you have already drained your family dry—stocks, properties, bonds, antiques. All gone. Kaitian was already collapsing. The Stones taking over? That’s the only thing keeping the company alive now.”

Opal then brushed past him, her expression cold as ever. “Remember this, Henry—you’re broke now. I paid for tonight. Pretty sure it’s the last time you’ll ever be drinking champagne this expensive.”
